Meet Matt: Our highly experienced Mortgage and Protection Advisor

Welcome to Oviso's 'Meet the team spotlight', where we introduce the friendly faces behind our business. These are the team who work hard to support clients and help make the Oviso experience both smooth and stress-free.

Next up is Matt Simpson, one of Oviso’s co-founders and a highly experienced mortgage and protection advisor.

Matt brings over two decades of industry knowledge, a real passion for helping people, and just the right amount of humour to keep things grounded. He’s also a man who doesn’t shy away from a challenge, whether it’s running a marathon or cycling across the country!

How long have you been with Oviso and what do you do?

"I’ve been in the mortgage and protection business since 2002. Then in May 2010, I co-founded Oviso. It’s been an incredible journey so far – we’ve grown a fantastic team and helped so many people over the years. I feel really proud of everything we’ve achieved, and I’m excited for what’s still to come."

Have you ever done an adventurous activity?

"Yes, quite a few! My brothers thought it would be a good idea to send me skydiving for my 40th birthday – and they weren’t wrong. I’ve also done a scuba diving course, and I love skiing whenever I get the chance."

Have you ever taken part in a charity event?

“I’ve taken on a few memorable ones over the years! Running the London Marathon was a huge personal challenge and something I’ll always be proud of – there’s nothing quite like that finish line feeling.

I’ve also:

Cycled Sustrans Route 68 from Berwick-upon-Tweed to Derby
Completed the 3 Peaks Challenge over five days, cycling between each mountain
Cycled from Aberystwyth to Lowestoft in under 24 hours

All for charity – and all unforgettable in their own way.”

Do you have any pets with unique personalities?

"We have a dog called Cooper who’s now officially the office dog. He brings plenty of character and always boosts the mood in the office – he’s part of the team and loved by everyone!"

What’s your favourite film?

"That depends on the day – but I’ve got a soft spot for 90s movies."

What’s the most memorable place you’ve travelled to?

"The first holiday I took with my now-wife to Ibiza and Formentera will always be special. Our best family holiday was definitely Lapland – we had the best time! And my top destination so far has to be Cape Town."

Is there a sport you’re passionate about – either watching or playing?

"I’ve always loved football, both playing and watching – though these days the recovery takes a bit longer than it used to! I’m also a big fan of the Olympics, and to be honest, I’ll watch pretty much any sport if it’s on."

What’s your go-to karaoke song?

"It's got to be Queen - Don’t Stop Me Now. It’s impossible not to sing along!"

Have you visited a natural wonder?

"Yes! I’ve visited the Grand Canyon. It’s every bit as awe-inspiring as you’d expect."

We’ve heard you’re handy in the kitchen! Do you have a go-to recipe?

"I’ve perfected a secret lamb curry recipe. It’s a firm favourite at home!"

  I recently enlisted the Help of Arran at Oviso for the purchase of my house. My job is unusual in that my wages can vary and some lenders are wary of that. Arran was brilliant in sourcing a lender that understood the nature of my job and were happy to lend. Throughout the process both he and Nicola were both pro-active with communication as well as being on hand to answer our shot questions and allay any worries we had. Arran really knows his stuff, and was able to explain everything to us simply, and in a way that wasn’t confusing with all the financial jargon that can get thrown around. With thanks to Arran, Nicola and the wider team at Oviso, we now have our wonderful home.

  We have recently re mortgaged and whilst staying with our existing lender should have been the easiest option it proved to be very difficult. I was then advised to try Oviso and we didn't look back. From an initial meeting with Matt at his office in Derby the whole process has been trouble and stress free.
