Working with our advisor Lee Mortimer for almost a decade, long-standing clients Richard and Michelle Cockayne decided to set up a joint life and critical illness policy. The package was designed to protect their mortgage and individual income protection policies from the worst case scenario.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck last year when Richard was diagnosed with bladder cancer aged just 37. On top of the distress already caused, Richard then had to stop working in order to focus on his treatment.
Concerned about his loss of income, Richard contacted Oviso for guidance. Lee promptly arranged for relevant claim forms to be sent out, and within just a few weeks Richard and his family started to receive monthly income protection pay-outs of £1250. These payments continued until December 2016, when Richard was able to return to work.
By the summer of 2016, the Cockaynes received their funds from the joint critical illness policy they set up previously. This amounted to £204,376 and allowed the couple to clear their mortgage and focus on Richard’s recovery.
We’re pleased to say that Richard is now fit and well, settling back into his usual routine without having to worry about finances. The cockaynes were pleased with how smoothly their claims were handled and the speed in which the overall process was completed, but most importantly, they recommend that everyone considers protecting themselves and their loved ones in the event of critical illness.
